Glenn and Roger Kellet milk 150 cows and rear all their own replacements at Bishop Thornton, Ripon, North Yorkshire.
They have used Stalosan@F firstly in their calf house and thereafter in the cubicle beds and they are delighted with the results so far.
"Our cell counts have never been so low in 24 years of farming here" said Glenn Kellet.
The cows have suffered with Mastitis and Glenn and Roger were becoming worried at their inhability to reduce the Somatic Cell count below 400.000 consistently. They have rubber mats in the cubicles and were regular users of lime.
"Since starting using Stalosan@F in november we have been delighted with the effects on cell counts, Mastitis and feet problems in the herd" commented Glen Kellet.
Somatic Cell counts have dropped dramatically and for the last two months of the winter averaged less than 100.000 "Unheard of on this farm" commented Glenn.
They have also noticed a reduction in the number of cases of Mastitis. In the winter of 1995/96 they had 25 cases, this year they had 3. "I have not tubed a milking cow for the last nine weeks" said Glenn, "not bad for 150 cows."
Stalosan@F applied once per week, at 100g per cow, has helped to keep the mats dries and has had a positive impact on feet problems. "We have suffered with digital dermatitis in the past but this year the Stalosan@F seems to have knocked it back" said Glenn, "and we have had little need for our footbath."
"We have now got into a regular routine - Friday night is now Stalosan night!"
